I have been trying to turn off my devices for two days since last week. I make it a few hours and then get a call or text from my boss about something that needs to be done. My entire world happens on a computer since I am in the computer science space. It’s been difficult also for me not to be on YouTube searching for videos to help my students. I am in the middle of my semester planning for the fall, so it means long hours at my computer testing programming problems for clarity and complexity. Add a few more hours creating slides, notes, new assignments, and test questions.

I also can quickly become overwhelmed with the number of activities I must complete for both classes this summer. I need to schedule a few readings and assignments daily so I don’t spend my entire day stressing out. Keeping up with all these things while having a personal life has not worked well for detox goals. I hope that with a reduced load in both my classes this week, I can spend at least the next 24 hours away from my computer. The next 48 hours still seem like a stretch! I know I’ll be working on some class prep, so I can have more of a detox in the week before the fall semester begins.
